Michigan Secretary of State Benson Launches PAC to Protect Democracy

PAC seeks to expand progressive, pro-democracy, pro-freedom, voter-driven victories in Michigan

MICHIGAN – Today, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced the launch of the Michigan Legacy PAC, a new State PAC dedicated to fortifying democracy in the Great Lakes State. With a focus on progressive values, protecting freedom, and empowering voters, the PAC aims to expand on the successes achieved so far and secure a brighter democratic future for Michigan.

Michigan Legacy PAC will build upon the significant efforts of Secretary Benson and other Secretaries of State nationwide in promoting and safeguarding democracy. The PAC's core objectives include supporting pro-democracy candidates across all levels of government in Michigan and creating a robust network of democracy defenders throughout the state.

To achieve these goals, the PAC will fund "democracy briefings," designed to inform and engage diverse audiences on the pressing challenges facing democracy today. By empowering people with knowledge, the briefings will encourage action and foster a sense of responsibility towards protecting democracy. Another pivotal aspect of the PAC's mission is to educate voters about the threats facing democracy. Through these initiatives, Michigan Legacy PAC seeks to drive voter participation and engagement in the democratic process.

Filings with the state creating the PAC were filed Monday and longtime progressive leader Lonnie Scott was named as the PAC’s Treasurer. “Michigan Legacy PAC's launch marks another milestone in the battle to preserve and enhance democratic values within the state. The PAC's inclusive and visionary approach promises to create a positive impact on Michigan's political landscape for generations to come and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.” Scott said.
